I had the honour of having lunch today with Mr John Southworth of Southworth Associates.
John has been a leading professional in the addiction field since 1983 and has a particular skill in interventions, a great professional interest of mine also. As well as facilitating interventions John is also a very accomplished trainer and is also a Member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Intervention Specialists (AIS) and a Member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Intervention Specialists Credentialing Board (AISCB)
Having been named as one of the top five interventionists in the USA by the famous clinic Betty Ford, John really is at the top of his profession.
I was really interested to hear from John about his approach to treatment which involves a much longer monitoring and support system than one typically finds via treatment facilities. Southworth Associates can support their clients for up to two years, he tells me, which really makes a lot of sense with an illness like this where it takes a fair amount of time to adjust to the dramatic changes our patients make. This is very good clinical practice.
It is always impressive to meet a man who is clearly so professional but also so charming and easy going. I can see how well he would work with any patient, no matter how difficult the situation. I am very impressed by Southworth’s approach and wholeheartedly recommend them.
