Yippee it’s Friday, which means today at Hay Farm we have our Art therapy session from 11am – 1pm.
Art Therapy utilises the creative process of art, anyone can be creative in some form or another.
Surprisingly the effects of art therapy can lead to a general sense of relief and overall feeling of calmness. It can often lead a person to some insightful conclusions about themselves. Again, it is therapy, but with a completely different ingredient than most people are use to, ART.
It’s important to note that you don’t need an art therapist to benefit from art therapy. If you go into art as therapy and learn about the basic concepts and ideas that it represents, then you can learn a lot about yourself through your own creative expression.
It’s something you can do on your own to just relieve stress and discover yourself in new ways. It’s also something you can do with other people. It’s truly a beautiful thing when you’re sharing art in an open, friendly, loving environment with other people that are on the same wavelength.
So why not give it a go yourself. Today we made jewellery; one patient made herself a recovery bracelet, it was beautiful. Why not try a collage, take an A4 piece of paper and draw a face upon it. Instead of colouring in the face use pieces torn from magazines, or tissue paper, newspaper clippings, ear plugs, ribbons, buttons basically anything you like, it’s time to express yourself through art.
Trust us when we say it can really help you relax and explore your creative side even those of you that think you’re not creative.
